The Different types of Slots Tournaments

  • Guaranteed – where the tournament prize fund (or at least minimum tournament prize fund) starts at a guaranteed amount (usually there is a minimum and maximum number of players requirement for these as well as most other tourneys).  These are generally reasonable sized compared to at least the initial buy-in and can often increase with participation and further re-buys.
  • Fixed or Variable – Sometimes the prize amounts are fixed or variable depending on the number of players and buy-ins and/or re-buys played in the tournament.
  • Sit n Go – these are simple ones where you battle against generally a smaller number of players – usually a fixed amount but can be variable.  Once the required players have registered – the tourney starts shortly after. Prizes are generally smaller in % compared to the entry fee but of course there is more chance of winning in smaller groups (due to less competing players).
  • Freezeout – These tournaments have only one buy-in (sometimes free) and does not allow any further chips to be bought with real money. This means everyone has the same chance of winning the tournament. Simply because everyone starts with the same amount of chips and cannot gain extra advantage buying more.
  • Rebuy – These tournaments allow a (usually limited) number of re-buys where you pay with your real money balance to get more chips (and maybe time) to play in the tournament. This can give you an advantage if you’re really close to the top for a higher prize.
